Jen Hambleton:
College Planner
Jen Hambleton has helped hundreds of students and professionals on their academic and career paths since 2006. Prior to becoming a college advisor, she served as a career and academic advisor at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey (MIIS), Middlebury College’s graduate school in Monterey, California. She also directed the school’s study abroad and fellowship programs. While coaching students through the fellowship application process, she fell in love with supporting them in writing authentic, engaging essays. Working in these roles convinced her that guiding students as they develop their future paths was her life’s calling.
Jen strives to continually stay connected to professional communities of practice and takes every opportunity to ensure that she has the most up-to-date knowledge for you and your family. She is an active Associate Member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA) and serves on the association’s LD/ND (Learning Differences/Neurodiversity) Committee. She is also a member of the National Association of College Admissions Counselors (NACAC), and a number of relevant local organizations. She has taken courses through the Independent Educational Consultant Certificate Program at UC Irvine, as well as coursework in the Professional Certificate in Learning Differences and Neurodiversity program at Landmark College.
She is grateful to be part of the team of college counselors with Minds Matter Portland, an academic mentoring organization. She also serves as the Vice President of the Board of Directors of The Lyceum of Monterey County, an organization focused on education and the arts.
Jen has an MA in International Policy from MIIS and a BA in Sociology and Anthropology from Lewis & Clark College. She has worked in the public, private and nonprofit sectors in the US and globally. She knows from experience that the college and career path is not always linear, but that when approached with the self-assurance and positivity that can come from good planning, it can be extraordinarily fulfilling.
