Donna Sakabu has provided college advising for several years, been actively involved in K-12 education in a variety of settings (public; private; homeschool) since 2000, including employment as an instructional aide/substitute teacher, and has served in leadership on various committees. Most recently she chaired the Scholarship Committee of a local high school Parent Boosters group, awarding $500 scholarships through a competitive application process to students heading to college.
Prior to the birth of her children, Donna utilized her B.S. in Finance from Cal. Poly., Pomona working as a financial analyst and accountant for large corporations and for a local non-profit. Her number crunching ability has translated into a keen interest in college affordability and financial aid options.
The work as a founding member of the College & Career Planning committee for a local charter high school served as the catalyst for her to venture into the field of college planning. She pursued, earning with Distinction, the UCLA Graduate Level Certificate in College Counseling, with the culminating internship completed in Rocklin Unified School District.
Memberships in WACAC, HECA, & IECA (Associate) provide Donna with opportunities for networking and professional development, including college campus visits. She keeps up with current trends and the ever changing higher education landscape through attendance at professional conferences, participation in monthly webinars, reading Inside Higher Education and many books on pertinent topics related to college admissions.
With 2 sons in college, she understands first-hand what it’s like to live through the college admissions journey. She is diligent about finding best fit colleges that align with student and family priorities, and considers it a privilege to help families with this part of their students’ educational journeys.
